Our Founding History

The company was founded in 1966 by engineer and entrepreneur Bertil Persson. Initially named Idé Utveckling AB (translated as Idea Development AB), the company began with Bertil’s vision of transforming innovative ideas into market-ready products. Bertil, who held a Master of Science in Engineering from Chalmers University, has always been driven by a profound passion for innovation.

One of Bertil’s first major successes was with a novel design for coin sorting, which led to the establishment of Scan Coin in collaboration with Knut Tidell and Jim Nissmo. In 1973, John Arne Ingemund Ekstrand approached Bertil with the concept of a red dot sight. With this idea Bertil developed the first ”electronic” red dot sight, combining a reflecting curved mirror and a light-emitting diode. This pioneering product was marketed by Aimpoint AB and became the first of its kind on the market.

Throughout his career, Bertil continued to innovate, developing numerous other products such as the hugely successful balance weight for Formula 1 under the brand name GAP during the years 1976-2002, where all manufacturers of Formula 1 wheels made special grooves inside and outside on their rims to fit the GAP racing weights. The GAP balance weight was used by Goodyear, Michelin, and Bridgestone for all the well-known racing teams and crossed the line as winner in every race.

In 1985, recognizing the growing need for fluid analysis, Bertil developed a lightweight and affordable fluid sampling tool. As the pump evolved and became the company’s primary product, the decision was made in 2024 to rename the company Oilsampling Sweden AB.

At the age of 88, Bertil has now retired from the operational aspects of the business, handing over the reins to his daughter Eva Lemark. Bertil now serves as Chairman of the Board, providing invaluable expertise and guidance as the company moves forward.
